In Pursuit of the Uncanny: Travel ans Digital Nomadism
For Heidegger, the experience of “the uncanny” is a revelation into the primordial fact of our existence, and not some psychological pathology as it is for Freud. It is an insight into the true nature of reality (a deeply alien and strange place when you think about it) usually covered over by humanity’s cultural and conceptual artifices. It is a lifting of the veil, so to speak, an unveiling of the ontological “ground” we build our lives and narratives upon, which ultimately is no ground at all – rather, only the illusion of solidity, surety, familiarity.
